Register of Deeds Creates Service Efficiency

(Dobson, N.C.) – Working closely with local attorneys and mortgage lenders, the Surry County Register of Deeds office announces that a certification statement will now be available for deeds filed electronically at the Register’s office detailing the time frame for payment of any unpaid real property taxes. Previously, an extra step was involved whereby the Surry County Tax Office required all such taxes to be paid prior to closing.

Surry County Register of Deeds Todd Harris stated: “The Register of Deeds office plays a vitally important role in keeping and holding important legal documents. We are also mindful that we are a conduit for commerce in our county and that anything we can undertake to make the processes associated with our office more efficient will be of benefit to our local economy and, in turn, to our citizens.”

Local attorney Hugh Campbell offered: “It’s a game changer, because it saves time and makes recording more efficient.”

Harris said: “I have an incredible staff and they have done a tremendous job working on this with our software provider. We will continue to look for ways to make our office more efficient.”
