Notary Information

In North Carolina, those wishing to become a Notary Public must complete a Secretary of State approved course of instruction in the duties of notary office.  These courses are offered at local community colleges and technical institutes.  Once you have completed and passed the course, instructions will be given for completing and mailing a Notary application to the North Carolina Secretary of State’s office.  The submission fee is $50.00 and must be remitted with the application.

Once notified by the Secretary of State of approval, applicants must appear in their home county Register of Deeds office and bring their approval letter or valid identification to take the Notary Oath.  The fee for administering the oath is $10.00 and can be paid by cash, check, credit or debit card.

No appointment is necessary.
