E-Verify

NC House Bill #786 was passed on September 4, 2013 and is effective immediately. This bill prohibits cities, counties, and state agencies from entering into certain contracts unless the contractor and their subcontractors comply with the requirements of Article 2 of Chapter 64 of the General Statutes.  This statute requires Employers to verify work authorization through E-Verify.

For Surry County, this prohibition applies to contracts within the formal bidding range.  This means that Surry County can no longer contract with companies that do not provide us with an affidavit confirming their compliance with Article 2 of Chapter 64 of the General Statutes.

Bidders will be required to furnish an E-Verify affidavit at the time of bid.
