Planning Board/Board of Adjustment/Historic Preservation Commission

The Planning Board is a legislative body responsible for reviewing and recommending long range planning initiatives, land use code revisions and zoning map and text amendments to the Board of Commissioners. The Planning Board also reviews and approves major subdivisions.

The Board of Adjustment is responsible for hearing variances, appeals of zoning decisions, and reviews and approves special use permits. The Board of Adjustment operates in a quasi-judicial manner as required by N.C.G.S. 160D and the Code of Ordinances.

The Historic Preservation Commission (HPC) is responsible for promoting, enhancing, and preserving the character and heritage of Surry County.  The HPC's powers are limited to properties within the Village of Rockford District. The HPC shall have all powers as provided in N.C.G.S. 160D-942 and the Code of Ordinances. Applications are considered based on adopted Standards, Guidelines and Briefs.

Meets at 6:00 p.m. on the second Monday of each month in the Historic Courthouse,  114 W. Atkins Street, Dobson.
